Revealing Photo Threatens a Major Disney Franchise

The funniest part about this is Disney has a HUGE agreement with Annie Leibovitz...she just shot a new photo of Julianne Moore as Ariel with Michael Phelps in it as well...it's quite beautiful. She's done a number of similar photos and I wonder what Disney will do re: this turn of events in regards to that agreement. I'll find a link.

And fwiw, in regards to Disney manipulating kids...there is a long line of kids that would give their left arm to be manipulated by them...including my daughter. These kids are paid very well. Obviously, they are also able to make their own decisions about their careers as Miley has proven above.

annie leibowitz takes amazing pics and can take ones that aren't creepy. i wonder if vanity fair suggested poses. one of my dreams is to have annie L take my photo. i went to see her collection when it was at the museum here.

regarding those particular photos: gross! her parents and grandmother were at the shoot. talk about poor judgment.

I didn't think anything about the picture except how I hate Billy Ray's hair. I showed the pic to BG, and he didn't think anything about it, either. He said, "You work on the assumption that father and daughter aren't humping, so there are no sexual overtones to take note of." Sorry, just a fancy, Hollywood-ish pic of father and daughter to me.

It's not what is showing, it's what the picture suggests. She's fifteen and it looks as if she's about to get plowed. Maybe I just have a dirty mind, but what else is a guy supposed to think when she's wrapped in a sheet and giving that look? As I said before...I'm far (and I really want to emphasize the "far" portion of this statement) from a prude, but that is an inappropriate picture for a fifteen year-old girl to be posing for...especially one who a lot of young girls look up to.

Forget that children look up to her...if you had a daughter, would you be alright if she had that exact picture taken? Would you display it proudly on your desk? Surely you can see what is wrong with it.

But I agree. It isn't a particularly scandalous picture. But it is about sex. The other pictures, the underwear flashing, are about sex. They are not pornographic or especially revealing, but they are about sex.

And the problem here is that millions of little girls, as young as four or five, think this Miley Cyrus is the shit. And they will emulate her. And she doesn't have the sense to realize that.

Even Britney waited till she was legal (and over) before she got naked. Her references in lyrics to sex were better coded than what Miley's doing.

So get ready for your seven-year-old to want to flash her underwear and get her photo taken wrapped in a sheet. She's learning these skills, even if she's not sure what to do with them.

Yeah...I'm on the fence...on the one hand (as a mom who obviously has girls that look up to her), I would not be thrilled to show these pics to my daughters and I am disappointed in some of the choices Miley is making.

But then, I was thinking about that second picture with Billy Ray...and I thought, Annie Leibovitz is taking the picture...do you think they are just going to be sitting side by side with their arms around each other like every other dad/daughter picture? Unlikely. I think you pretty much see what you want to see with that one.

I was reading an article about this situation and it was saying that Miley and "her people" are very nervous about making sure she is still relevant in a few years...but I think they all realized they may have been a little too nervous about it too soon.

All that being said, the majority of kids that look up to her, will not even see these pictures...even Lainie who is all over the internet knows nothing about it. All is not lost with her at this point and at least she came out and said she was embarrassed about them and realizes it wasn't the wisest of moves. Hopefully she learns something from it.

And fwiw, her lyrics to her songs are so NOT suggestive...very juvenille, IMO.

I guess I'm an outlier because the first pic's message doesn't seem to be about sex to me. Maybe indirectly, but it's a stretch IMO to gain some sexual message from a girl wrapped in a bedsheet. That said, I have no idea what kind of message was trying to be sent...maybe just more simplistic beauty.

Isn't the more fundamental problem that (apparently) we've given up hope of teaching our kids to be themselves and evaluate what they see and think about everything for themselves? I obviously can't speak from the perspective of a parent of a kid learning about the world. I don't even have any younger siblings so I'm probably naive w/r/t the fear folks have about kids' decisions being based on terrible logic/role models. To me that fear of bad role models is irrational because I feel like I would have faith in my kids' decisions.

If my daughter decided to be a slut I'd hope she'd do it for better reasons than Miley f'ing Cyrus.

i think, simplistically, what it is that bothers me about these shots is that we're talking about a young person...the shots are suggestive and are what you would expect from an annie l...having said that, who are her handlers, advisors, and/or guardians? who are they and why have they approved such a project.

it's inappropriate imho and dumb. i refuse to believe that billy ray cyrus was the sole architect of this display in poor judgment and i refuse to believe that he was the final say either...therefore, it is reasonable to think that a TEAM of people with poor judgment had everything to do with this. that supports the assertion that miley cyrus is being exploited and abused (abused meaning used wrongly or improperly...ill-use...improper use or handling...misuse)
